Faces of Death emerged in the early 1990s in Pindamonhangaba, in the interior of São Paulo state, formed by three teenagers who found in Thrash Metal a way to channel their indignation against religious impositions and other forms of control and oppression. From the start, their aim was to turn music into a weapon of sorts, distilling fury and aggression into compositions that questioned the realities the members were experiencing. Between 1994 and 1996, the band released two demo tapes; the second, *Retrocession*, was reviewed in issue #114 of *Rock Brigade* magazine, one of Brazil’s leading metal publications at the time. However, in 1996, a member moving to another city and the difficulty of maintaining a rehearsal schedule led the band to cease operations.

Two decades passed before Laurence Miranda (vocals and guitar) decided to revive Faces of Death in 2016, alongside his brother Sylvio Miranda on bass. The idea was to recapture the essence of the 1990s band without sacrificing the aggression that had always defined its identity. Drummer Sidney Ramos joined the project, completing the lineup for the comeback. In 2017, the group released the EP *Consummatum Est*, which was well-received in the underground scene and garnered attention from specialized media. The following year, with the addition of guitarist Felipe Rodrigues, Faces of Death became a quartet and recorded their debut album, *From Hell*; the release made a significant impact and was cited as a highlight of the year by specialized outlets, particularly *Roadie Crew* magazine.

In 2020, during one of the most difficult periods of the COVID-19 pandemic, Faces of Death released *Usurper of Souls*, deepening their blend of Thrash and Death Metal and further intensifying the heaviness and aggression of their compositions. This album also ranked among the year’s highlights in the specialized press, including *Roadie Crew*. The following year, the band released the video “A Drink With The Death – Rehearsal Live” and invited experienced guitarist Luiz Amadeus to join the group. In 2022, Luiz Amadeus and drummer Niko Teixeira joined the lineup, accompanying Laurence Miranda and Sylvio Miranda in a new phase marked by increased brutality and professional growth. This period also brought the prospect of the “Hellropean Tour,” organized by Onfire Agency, with shows scheduled for countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

Also in 2022, Faces of Death released the single and music video “When Calls The Death,” the first taste of their upcoming work. Produced by the band itself at Audiolab Extreme Studio in Taubaté (SP)—under the direction of Niko Teixeira, who also handled mixing and mastering—the track paved the way for the album *Evil*. Released in 2023, the record recaptured the essence of 1980s and 1990s Thrash Metal and once again garnered attention from the specialized press, including the *Roadie Crew* team.

Currently, Faces of Death features Laurence Miranda (vocals and guitar), Maurício Filho (guitar), Sylvio Miranda (bass), and Igor Nogueira (drums). These musicians are driving the band’s current phase and the release of the single and music video “Terror em Barbacena,” reaffirming their identity within the Brazilian extreme metal scene. More than three decades after its inception, the group continues to use Thrash and Death Metal to express its worldview; they have just signed with the legendary label Combat Records for their next release and have a new European tour scheduled for October.
