FACES OF DEATH
EVIL

One of the most talented bands in the fertile extreme metal scene in Brazil, Faces of Death reaches its third studio album presenting new features not only in its formation, with Laurence Miranda (vocals and guitar) and Sylvio Miranda (bass) welcoming Luiz Amadeus (guitar) and Niko Teixeira (drums). In Evil, released by the partnership between the labels Impaled, Master, Gerunda Produções and Gate Of Doom, the São Paulo quartet embraces thrash more than death metal in a successful revival of the 1980s and 1990s. right away, in the title track: Sepultura. Despite the beating beginning and a touch of Slayer in the most rhythmic part (with one of the many guitar riffs that stand out throughout the listening), the Beneath the Remains phase is what guides a song that has all the elements of the style well worked and with great transitions. And if Stronger Than You also doesn’t hide the respect and admiration for the biggest band in the history of national metal, there is much more in Evil: the punk vein shows up in Bloody Cross, When Calls Death includes doom metal in the recipe, and the mix It gets even better in the dragging Hanging Out With the Devil, which features an acoustic part, highlighting even the bass line, which was impeccable. And can you imagine Motörhead making rootsy thrash metal? Faces of Death translated this idea into Lemmy Said One Day…, which presents another highlight of the CD: the lyrics, which mostly deal with concrete themes brought up for debate, such as politics and religion. But It’s Calling Me Out… Suicide, which addresses the disease of the century, depression; A Monster in the Park, about the serial killer Francisco de Assis Pereira, known as the Park Maniac; and Kiss of Death, a sound punch with a magical riff to deal with the fire that killed 242 people at Nightclub Kiss, in Santa Maria (RS), in 2012. Everything, from the graphic concept to the production, packed with high-level music.
